The interaction between search engines and social networking websites has been increasing recently with the search engines eager to provide their users with real-time search results and the social media websites helping them to do this. However, Bing and Facebook have recently been developing the search service provided on the Facebook website too.

Microsoft and Facebook have been working together for some time but have decided to now extend this even further. The new Bing is to play an even more significant role in the search service offered to those within the Facebook community. More of the standard Bing features will be available for those using Facebook and this means a higher quality set of results will be displayed. Facebook aims to improve the search service it offers and Bing hopes to bring its search service to the attention of millions by targeting the Facebook audience. The technology, tools and features of Bing being added to Facebook search will make a big difference to the search experience Facebook users have.

The combining of Facebook and Bing is not just taking place within the US. Facebook users located all over the world will now experience Facebook search with a greater influence by Bing. This is an audience of around 400 million and so the results are likely to be significant.

Another recent change is Facebook will now take control of the selling of display advertisements on its website. Microsoft and Facebook have been working on advertising for a considerable amount of time. The results have shown it is more productive for Facebook to have control and so it has been decided they should do so. Search advertisements for Facebook will still be provided by Microsoft in the future.

Facebook and Microsoft are extremely positive about these developments and the results they are going to achieve. They believe the search service offered by Facebook is going to be much improved and users of Facebook will find it an impressive new feature to the Facebook website. It is hoped increasing numbers of Facebook users will use the site for search and also that Bing will gain exposure and be used by the huge Facebook audience.

Facebook and Bing are two highly significant companies in search engine optimisation. Social networking websites are useful as part of an SEO campaign for many reasons and Bing is proving to be an impressive search engine and a potential competitor for Google. Facebook and Bing need to be acknowledged by those working in SEO so opportunities are not missed.
