Will Bing replace Google on the iPhone?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

The Bing search engine has been developed to offer internet users an alternative option to Google. Google currently dominates the search environment and is the most popular search engine in the world. Microsoft has developed Bing to take on the mighty Google and is trying to gain any advantage possible that can help it to gain market share and be a success.

The iPhone is extremely popular at the moment with many users worldwide. Google is currently the default search engine on the iPhone and this means that once again Google is receiving a large amount of the search traffic. All of the users of the iPhone (and this is a considerable number) are currently directed to Google as their search engine and this has undoubtedly increased Google’s share of the mobile search market. However, reports are now suggesting that Apple is in talks with Microsoft and that Bing may become the replacement default search engine on the iPhone.

This could be a massive accomplishment for Microsoft and could help Bing to significantly increase its user numbers. Due to the immense popularity of the iPhone, anything associated with it, including its default search engine, is also highly likely to increase in popularity too.

It is highly likely that Apple is considering using Bing instead of Google because of the development of the Nexus One mobile phone by Google. This phone is being viewed as a major competitor for the iPhone and so of course Apple will not be viewing Google favourably at the moment and may feel betrayed and threatened by this expansion of Google into the mobile market. The obvious next step for Apple is therefore to turn to a competitor of Google and to encourage users to use this search engine instead.

Apple and Microsoft remain competitors in some markets but a deal like this could be advantageous for both companies and could be a disappointing development for Google. If this deal goes ahead then Apple will demonstrate effectively its opinion on Google and the development of its Nexus One phone and show that it is going to compete strongly to ensure that this new phone does not overshadow the iPhone. The deal would also be beneficial for Microsoft because it will likely increase its user numbers and help Bing to increase its portion within the mobile search market.

Bing Maps to provide a superior service to that of Google?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Google Maps is currently popular all over the world and many businesses are aware of the advantages of having their business listings in Google Maps. Bing Maps is introducing some impressive mapping features and the service it is offering is being viewed as strong competition for Google Maps.

Bing Maps has implemented ‘Street Side’ into its mapping service which is similar in nature to ‘Google Street View’. ‘Street Side’ will enable Bing Maps users to explore towns, cities and neighbourhoods through a selection of photographs that have been taken of these areas. These photographs will provide users with a tour of the locations they have expressed an interest in and can provide them with a great deal of useful information. Internet users now expect to receive and view a lot more information when using a map service and ‘Street Side’ is well prepared for these demands.

The technology behind the ‘Street Side’ feature is complex and it has enabled Bing Maps to offer its users a more realistic and detailed mapping experience. 3D images are possible and this type of image can greatly increase the quality of the experience for the map user.

In order to use Bing Maps effectively, Microsoft Silverlight must first be downloaded by the user, but once this has been done, the user will be able to utilise a number of impressive search and mapping features that have not previously been possible using other mapping services.

Bing Maps has also introduced an ‘Apps Gallery’ that enables different information of different types to be presented on the same map. This feature will be extended in the future to include more types of information and will likely be extremely useful for many map users.

Users of Bing Maps have been reviewing the service positively and claiming that it is superior to the service offered by Google Maps. It may have taken Bing Maps a little while longer than Google to introduce their new mapping features, but now that they have this mapping service will be a popular and regular choice for many internet users.

Bing is also hoping to offer this service on mobile devices in the near future which will mean the usefulness of this tool will be even greater.

Due to the high quality technology, thought and planning that has gone into Bing Maps, an impressive mapping service has been created that can offer users an abundant amount of useful and helpful information clearly and easily. This service is set to be extremely popular and this means that online businesses will have an opportunity to target a huge audience and inform them about their business if their business listing is included in Bing Maps.

We at SEO Consult are always looking for new and effective ways that our clients can increase the amount of targeted traffic that visits their websites and increase their rankings too. We can help you to identify the right SEO methods for your business and use them effectively within a productive SEO campaign.
