The number of seniors online is increasing significantly

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Recently carried out research has shown that an increasing number of internet users are now aged over 65 years old. The report was carried out by Nielsen and found that the number of internet users aged 65 and over has increased by an impressive 55% in just the last five years. This brings the total amount of over 65 year olds that regularly use the internet to a massive 17.5 million. Not only have more users of this age group been found to be using the internet more, but they have also been found to be spending longer online. This research is of great importance to online businesses as it highlights an important online audience that they can now work to target effectively.

It was also found that the online activities carried out by internet users in this age group are highly similar to those carried out by other age groups. The checking of emails, paying of bills, the visiting of social networking websites, reading the news, sharing photos and shopping were all found to be the main reasons why these users access the internet regularly.

Google is the most popular search engine in the world so it is fitting that it is actually Google that was found to be the most visited website by internet users over the age of 65 in November 2009. This is useful information for those that have high rankings in the Google search results and those that are trying to gain high rankings through a search engine optimisation campaign. When carrying out a search engine optimisation campaign, the target audience must be considered carefully and targeted effectively. Those over 65 years old may fit into your target audience and due to the increase in their internet usage, should be considered within your SEO campaign too when trying to obtain high rankings in Google.

Social networking websites are also a popular choice for this age group when online and once again, social networking websites also play an important role in search engine optimisation so this can be significant information for business owners. When updating your social networking profiles for your business, keep in mind your audience of this age group and this may help you to develop even more followers, loyalty and trust through your social networking efforts. Some businesses cater quite exclusively for more mature consumers, so they should carefully consider the implications of these research findings.

When carrying out a search engine optimisation campaign, it is important to monitor the behaviour and details of internet users so that you can work effectively with them. Having a knowledge and understanding of who is using the internet and how, you can then target the appropriate audience for your business more effectively through your SEO campaign.

We at SEO Consult can help you to target your audience effectively through the use of ethical and successful SEO techniques. We monitor all research carried out in search so that we can advise our clients effectively on important issues such as who is using the internet, how they are using it and how this can affect their internet marketing methods.

Google ranked top search engine in the Asia-Pacific region

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Recent research carried out by comScore has revealed that Google is becoming increasingly popular all over the world. In the month of September, around 38.6 billion searches were carried out online by users based in the Asia-Pacific region. It works out that each user carried out approximately 88 online searches in this month alone. What is also notable from this research is how many of these users chose to use Google to help them with their search. Around 17 billion of these searches were carried out by the search engine Google which means that Google has 44.1% of the search market share in this important region.

Baidu was found to be the second most popular search engine currently in this region with approximately 8.2 billion searches carried out using this search engine and approximately 21.3% of the market share. Baidu is a local search engine and so Google outperforming Baidu once again shows what a massive achievement this is for Google.Yahoo websites were also ranked quite highly in this area of the world. Around 5.3 billion of the searches made in the Asia-Pacific region used the Yahoo search engine and this represents around 13.8% of the market share.

Different countries within the Asia-Pacific region were found to have different search engine preferences. Google was found to be the most popular search engine for users located in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, India, Singapore and Malaysia, while Yahoo was found to be the favourite search engine for users based in Taiwan and Hong Kong.  The Chinese search engine Baidu came out as the top search engine for searches carried out in China and NHN Corporation was the most used search engine by users located in Korea. This demonstrates that local search engines can still have a major influence and be highly attractive to those living within the locality.

As local search engines can attract larger audiences in their nearby locations than the major global brands, it is necessary for search engines such as Google and Yahoo to develop their capabilities so that they can deal with search queries from various locations throughout the world as effectively as the local search engines. Local competition is obviously ahead on understanding local culture, so Google is attempting to develop positively in this direction in order to gain popularity in countries in the different regions of the world. Such efforts must be sustained if it is going to remain successful in the future too.

Google is an incredibly powerful and influential search engine that can help online businesses gain exposure and communicate with audiences all over the world. If you want your business to be successful, you must work appropriately with Google and carry out an efficient search engine optimisation campaign.

We at SEO Consult can help you to use the most appropriate and productive SEO techniques that will increase the chances of your website being ranked highly in the search results provided by Google.
