Faceless, virtual marketing

Traditionally you had a shop in a building and you traded your products and services from your bricks and mortar location. The internet opened up a whole new way of doing business that has forever changed the way consumers shop. You do not see your customers, you do not know what they look like, and you cannot interact with them as you could before.

The only place of contact between you and your clients is your website. Your website is your virtual store where you showcase your products and services. That is not all though, your website is your voice.

You have to be able to communicate to your web traffic through your website content. The only way to interact successfully with your clients is to get to know who they are, what they like and dislike. Basically, you need to find out everything about them. But seeing as you never come face to face with them, how can you do this?

Profile your target market

To be able to hold the attention of your site visitors you have to know who and what they are. First comes demographics of your target audience; their location, gender, age, educational level and their likes and dislikes. Then you must examine why they would come to your website, in other words what their needs are. Each of your web pages must be constructed in such a way that the content will immediately grab the attention of your site visitor. In other words your web pages must “talk to the visitor in their own language”. They must be able to see immediately that the web page they landed on contains the information that they searched for.

Don’t put hurdles in their way

Make your website as clear and concise as possible; people are not interested in battling to find what they want. They will click out and go find what they want elsewhere, from your competition. Make sure that your products are listed with precise and clear instructions on use and list all the benefits such products have for the user. If you offer services, show them the results of using your services in a sharp and focussed way.

If your site visitors find you have placed the search engines in top priority and them second, you have lost all credibility. Internet users are smart, they know all about pandering to the search engines with keywords etc. If your website visitors feel you do not value them and you do not make your web pages user friendly, you lose them. Search engine optimisation has showed them the way to get to your website. You must do everything possible to hold their attention once they land on your website; otherwise, you have wasted time and money with SEO.

Build from the foundation

It is very easy to satisfy the search engines when you build a website that is completely customer focussed. Your site visitors are your potential customers, not the search engines so make sure that your web content please your visitors. A good SEO writer knows how to write optimised content that please the site visitors and appeal to the search engines. Your website is the only chance you have to interact with our potential clients. You have to cater to their questions, wants and needs or you will fail at converting them to customers.
