Registering with the Google Local Business Centre can be beneficial for businesses in many ways and is highly recommended by Google. Google is continuously developing what it offers through the Local Business Centre and is constantly seeking new ways to not only help its users to find the right businesses for them in their local area but to also help local businesses to attract new customers. Registering with the Local Business Centre may be advantageous for your business and can be useful as part of a search engine optimisation campaign. There are some common issues that arise for businesses when they do register with Google in this way and so it is advisable to look out for any of these problems so that they can be rectified as soon as possible so as little damage as possible is done to your business.

It is common for listings to be flagged within the LBC system and this can of course cause problems. A listing is flagged when the business owner hasn’t followed the guidelines provided appropriately but this can also happen when no errors have been made. If this is the case, email or write a post in the forum about your listing having been flagged and this should attract the attention of someone at Google who is able to help you.

The main point of having a listing is so that your business details are displayed when relevant keywords or search terms are searched for by a user of the service. It is a common complaint amongst business owners that their listings are not displayed for the right keywords and this of course means a missed opportunity for marketing your business to your target audience. Ensure that when creating your listing that you select the most appropriate categories fro your business.

Negative reviews about your business in your listing can have a damaging effect and deter potential customers from your company. If you feel a negative review has been posted unfairly and that it is not a genuine complaint, you can try to contact Google to request that it be removed. However, Google will not simply remove a review because you don’t like it- you must have a case as to why the review is not appropriate. The recommended course of action is to encourage those customers that are fans of your business to leave positive reviews. If you have many encouraging reviews about your site, one negative review will not have as much of an impact.

These are just three common issues businesses have when registering with the Local Business Centre and it is worth looking out for any of these problems. Having a listing with the LBC can be advantageous and is worth considering if hoping to target your local area effectively.
