Google has launched Place Pages for Google Maps and this feature is set to make the map service provided by Google even more popular and useful. Whilst it has always been helpful to explore the information given by a Google map, it has not been easy to obtain a clear understanding about the area and to view it some detail. Place Pages will mean that it is now possible to learn a lot more about a certain place by using the new feature in Google Maps.

A Place Page features an abundance of relevant information about a certain location, all on a single page. Often, when carrying out a search many different searches and websites would have to be visited in order to gather detailed and varied information like this but Place Pages provides users with this information all on one page and quickly and easily too. All sorts of different places are included in this feature including landmarks, businesses, neighbourhoods, cities and any other location.

Once a search result is displayed, if the ‘more info’ bubble is selected by the user then a full and highly detailed page featuring a lot of relevant information about the location searched for is presented to the user. Information such as transport links for that area, photos, reviews, relevant businesses in that area and other information Google deems appropriate is all provided for the user so that they can gain an immediate understanding of the location without having to spend a lot of time searching the internet for the relevant information.

It is possible for business owners to create a Place Page for their business by visiting the Google Local Business Centre. Google is expanding its database so is welcoming entries from businesses so that it can provide its users with information on as many locations as possible. By creating a Place Page, it is possible for businesses to provide potential visitors and customers with a wide range of helpful information and this can of course be highly advantageous for the business.

Whilst these Place Pages are currently only available from the Google Maps service and Google has stated that these pages will not currently be indexed for Google search results, there is a lot of speculation that this will be a development in the future and that Google Place Pages will therefore become significant in terms of search engine optimisation. How useful these pages may be as landing pages and the role they may play within a local SEO strategy is being questioned by SEO experts and business owners.

At SEO Consult, we constantly monitor and adapt to the methods and features adopted by the search engines so that the search engine optimisation campaigns carried out by our clients are efficient and effective. Place Pages may prove to be a significant part of search engine optimisation in the future and we will be ready to immediately help our clients to take the necessary steps in order to use Place Pages to the advantage of their businesses. There are many varying SEO methods involved in a campaign and we at SEO Consult know the importance of finding the right techniques for a business and updating and adapting these techniques in the ever-changing search engine optimisation environment.
