How their website is ranked in the search results provided by the major search engines such as Google is of great importance to business owners. Achieving a top position in the results when a relevant search query is carried out can mean a significant increase in exposure for a business and a massive increase in the amount of traffic that visits a website too. Google is one of the most important search engines to be ranked highly for because it is the most popular search engine in the world. The development and implementation of Google Caffeine may mean some big changes for businesses currently being ranked highly in the Google search results and this is concerning for some.

Google Caffeine is the new algorithm Google uses to rank websites accordingly within the search results it provides. How it works exactly is not known but speculations about the ranking factors that are significant are being discussed and are altering the search engine optimisation campaigns of some companies.

Links have played a role in search engine optimisation for a considerable amount of time because they have been important to the search engines. This importance is likely to continue with Google Caffeine. It is thought that websites that feature links which are not working effectively within and to their sites will be punished with low rankings and websites which have low quality links to their websites will not be able to obtain top ranking positions either. Google judges websites by the websites they are linked to and if a business is linked to a spam website or other sites of low quality then this will not reflect positively on the business.

How long it takes for websites to load has been a popular issue for discussion recently with many believing that this factor will be of greater significance in the future. Information is suggesting that the loading time of websites will be an important ranking factor and websites that load quickly will be more likely to be ranked highly in the search results. The search engines want to provide users with accurate and relevant results quickly and in order to this the websites they suggest must load quickly too.

While it is possible that in the past a website has only taken into consideration one or two ranking factors and has been able to achieve high rankings, this is less likely with Google Caffeine. Google is looking for websites of a high quality and websites which have been created for their users successfully. High quality content, layout, navigation and links are all of extreme importance to the search engine and must be considered if a business is going to be ranked in a top spot.
