Millions of internet users carry out searches every day and often turn to Google for the answers. When searching for something, the user wants to find relevant and useful information as quickly and as easily as possible and so the aim of Google and the other search engines is to provide them with a search service that enables this.

When a search query is entered into the search box, there will often be many potentially relevant and useful search results displayed. This can be overwhelming and it can take a considerable amount of time to scan the information and evaluate the usefulness of each link. Clicking on an inappropriate and unhelpful website can feel a waste of time and is something many users find frustrating.

To try and help search engine users know a little bit more about the content of a website before they click on the link provided, Google is now trying to provide them with more useful information in the snippet that is provided with a search result link. These snippets give the user information about what is present in the web pages and what may be of interest and use to them.

Google is trying to also feature relevant links within the search snippet that the searcher can click on to take them directly to a page of significance. This means that Google is searching the web pages it is displaying and able to direct users to specific pages of interest and relevance easily and quickly.

However, this kind of detailed search snippet will not be available for search results of all websites yet. Wikipedia is a website that is structured perfectly for this as many of the Wikipedia web pages are being displayed in the Google search results with this added feature.

This new feature from Google is useful and advantageous for searchers as it can allow them quick and easy access to pages which hold relevant information to their search query and pages that may have been hidden within the website and may have otherwise taken ages to find. However, it can also be beneficial for the business too. As users have access and are more likely to find useful and relevant information on the pages of a site, they are more likely to spend longer on these pages and potentially become a customer. It is therefore necessary that webmasters ensure their websites are suitable for the Google algorithm. The dividing of a website into appropriate sections, the creation of detailed anchors for these sections and a contents table with a link to each of these sections can be beneficial and are recommended.

At SEO Consult, we know the importance and significance of Google and how necessary it is for our clients to be ranked highly in the search results it provides. We use a number of various SEO techniques to help our clients work effectively and productively with Google so that more valuable traffic is directed to their web pages.
