PageRank has been an important factor for consideration for those involved in search engine optimisation for a long time now with many website owners believing PageRank to be one of the most important factors that can affect the ranking of a website in the search results of the main search engines. However, PageRank has now been removed from Webmaster Tools and little has been said about this by Google.
Internet experts are claiming that this tool has been removed because it does not provide information at the level of significance often thought by those involved in search engine optimisation. Those at Google are stating that they could not tell webmasters not to concentrate on PageRank and that it was not the most important factor in search engine optimisation and then keep including the tool in Google’s Webmaster Tools. Removing PageRank from Webmaster Tools is intended to once and for all show those in SEO that PageRank is not a significant factor and other factors have a bigger influence over where a website is ranked in the search results.
PageRank is however still available in the Google Toolbar. It is claimed that this is the case because so many Google users are so accustomed to having PageRank that it would be highly disruptive to remove it from the toolbar provided. Feedback for the proposition pertaining to the removal of PageRank from the toolbar has not been successful in convincing the executives at Google that it would be worthwhile to remove PageRank completely.
Even though the reduced influence and significance of PageRank has been highlighted through these recent developments, PageRank can still provide business owners with some valuable and helpful information about the performance of their websites.
Search engine optimisation relies on a number of different SEO techniques in order to improve the rankings of websites in the search results of search engines because there are so many different factors taken into consideration by the search engines when they are evaluating the relevancy and quality of a website for its search results. While PageRank may be a factor, there are also around two hundred other factors that are commonly taken into consideration by the major search engines and that can make a big difference to how a website is ranked.
