SEO can be divided into three parts. The first part deals with choosing a domain name which should contain either the name of a business or contain targeted keyword phrases. The other two parts are essential for optimisation of a web site and rankings.
Off Page Optimisation can be defined as the whole promotion of a site. The SEO work done on the back end is known as Off Page optimisation, those areas that are not seen by human eyes. On Page optimization is the SEO work done on the front end of a website, the area seen by humans and web crawlers. When Off page optimisation is done it reflects on the placement of keywords in search engines through On Page optimisation.
On Page optimisation
- Meta descriptions should be unique
- Avoid image links or java script links and flash links
- Use “Alt Tag” to optimise images. web spiders are unable to read images so it makes sense to add a description in the “Alt Tag”
- Add a Title Tag on each page
- Check links on each page and fix any that are broken or that contain errors
- Use text links for internal linking and alternate the keywords used in them
- In case of cross linking use targeted keywords between pages
- Your keywords should infiltrate your content on each page and should be relevant to the particular content
- Spread your text links for important pages from your index page
- If you have bought or inherited an old domain and are using it for a new website check to see if it contains any black hat techniques and remove them immediately
- Search engine spiders are unable to read image content so try to avoid placing them in your content to replace text
- Place the robot.txt in an appropriate place and with instructions
- Insert a sitemap on your website
- Place common headers and footers within H2 tags. Alternate your keyword if you want to increase keyword density
- All your links should be short and accessible by web spiders. Replace long links if they exist
- Important links should be static. Dynamic links are not good for business pages
- Try to adhere to W3C compliance standards as search engines love HTML code. It is debatable whether having a website that complies to W3C standards will help SEO it is a good habit to start and stay with
- Include Meta tag descriptions in HTML coding
- Cross reference your site for browser compatibility
- Name each page according to keywords you want to rank for
- Choose one keyword per page. Your keyword will pop up more in the coding on each page
- Ensue your navigation code includes full URL’s and include your keywords in the anchor text
- Include videos as search engines
- Submit a video sitemap to your search engine will take notice
- Remember that content is king. Good fresh, relevant and updated content is what gets web pages noticed
