A badly designed website will be totally ineffective for raising rankings.  If a website has a lack of clear navigation, poorly designed frames, is loaded with graphics that take forever to load then it is poorly designed.  The aim is to provide website that is easy to navigation.  If a spider is blocked from crawling and doing their job they won’t return.  if users find broken links, poor content and a site that takes forever to open they will turn elsewhere.  A poorly designed site is bad for SEO.
