This is the rate of visitors to takers, that is how many people are visiting he site and of the number how many are buying. This can be put in simple terms to say if there are 100 visitors and 50 are buying the conversion ration is 50:100. This is a very important tool as it can be used to analyse the performance of the website in relation to driving the sales of the business.

Apart from keeping the figures, this tool may also be used to collect other related information which may assist in the thrust of the business. It can collect anonymous information which can not be traced to an individual visitor but may be very important to the business. Such information may include the date, how many visitor came to the site. It can also be used to see how many pages were visited by those that would have visited the site.

Web analytics may also be used to see how long a visitor took on the site. This would clearly send some signals to the designer as it would assist in seeing if the site is friendly. The less the people spend on the site, the less likely that they would buy anything.

It is also possible to tell through the analytics if the visitor was visiting the site for the first time or is a returnee. If it is the first time then it is a sign that the site is increasing in terms of popularity and if the visitor is retuning, then it means that there is something that they are getting which is encouraging repeat business. The analytic may also assist in geographically locating the visitors which would also assist in planning.
