YouTube has offered a promotional video facility on their website for a while now and these videos have been receiving a lot of interest from users of the website. The videos would normally only be displayed on the results page when a search was carried out by a user on the site. The user would then have the opportunity to click on a video and if they did so a charge would be incurred by the advertiser who had created the video. However, these new developments mean that promotional videos will now be displayed on web pages featuring another video. The videos will now be featured on content pages within the YouTube website and will be accessible by clicking on the ‘Related Videos’ section of the website.

The YouTube Promotional Videos idea is based upon the systems used for Google Adwords and Google Adsense. With these new developments, it works upon the same concept as Adsense as the content of a page being displayed on YouTube will be assessed and checked with the promotional videos available in an attempt to feature promotional videos that are relevant to the content. Therefore, users are more likely to click on the adverts featuring content of a similar and relevant nature to the video page that they have already selected and are more likely to find these adverts of interest. This will also benefit the advertisers too as they will be targeting their ads at an audience that are actually interested in their content and subject matter and are therefore more likely to click on their link.

Like with Adwords, advertisers who want to have their promotional videos appear in the search results section of the YouTube website like this will have to bid on relevant keywords in order for their links to be displayed. The keywords and the cost of having these keywords will vary depending on the subject matter of the video.

Promotional videos on YouTube have been proving very successful in recent months and so these developments have been made in order to give users more choice and ease of access to appropriate promotional videos and to give the advertisers more opportunities to reach appropriate and relevant potential customers.

The use of videos in advertising is increasing in popularity with more and more internet users being interested in this medium and being open to considering this type of advertising. YouTube is undoubtedly the biggest and most well known website for  video content and therefore the addition of promotional videos to more of their pages can be an exciting development for advertisers and internet users too.

At SEO Consult we understand that there are many methods involved in a search engine optimisation campaign and that these techniques can vary depending on the type of business and the technological developments taking place at the time. We can help you use promotional videos appropriately as part of your campaign to help ensure your business gains exposure and that the amount of traffic to your website is increased.
