Ignoring SEO could harm your business

So what is all the fuss about this SEO business anyway? Some business owners are of the opinion that their family business has been running a certain way for years and they don’t need to change anything about it. While there may be some truth to that mindset there absolute truth is that the world has changed, and rapidly at that.

About two decades ago it was fine not to have website that promoted your company and your products or services. With the birth of the world wide web that all changed. Soon with time it became imperative for company’s to change and their approach and get websites developed to advertise to the millions who were surfing the internet daily.

Two decades ago having a web page was optional; today it is imperative for any serious business to have a website. Not having a website in today’s world would be the equivalent of not having any advertising or signs outside your store to draw customers in. Today’s consumers have been spoiled for choice by the internet.

Transparency is what it is all about

Not having a website means not having any visibility. People no longer just rush out and order products or services from the first place they find anymore, with the internet, consumers are able to surf the net and look at various options for a products or service. This kind of shopping brought with it a new kind of pressure in the business world: the pressure to be seen first and seen the most.

The fight to draw consumers’ attention is as old as business itself. Though the dynamics of business have basically remained unchanged the way business is done has changed dramatically. It is a fact that consumers expect really quick results on the internet and often that means that they will not look past the first page in a search engine when looking for a product or service.

First place or no place at all

The struggle with this then becomes to get a business listed on the first page of the search engines results in order to draw sufficient traffic to increase the rate of conversions to sales. SEO is currently the most widely used method of generating the required results for webpage t make it to the first page.

It is not enough to simply have a website created for your business. Should your business be a very specific niche business then the chances are more probable that because there is not much competition then that business may receive a good ranking.

For businesses which are competing for customers SEO makes the difference between landing up on the first page and the second page and although that is merely a click’s difference, it is literally millions and millions of possible buyers’ difference. In very much the same way the businesses of old that refused to use marketing as a strategy and did not last very long, businesses that do not employ ethical uses of SEO only limit their chances of survival and ultimately financial success.
