Internet marketing compared to traditional marketing

What’s the big craze with internet marketing? It is fast, efficient and reaches millions. If you own a website you will understand the importance of any form of online marketing. Being thrown into the World Wide Web with a sea of similar websites means that you need to find something that places you ahead of your competition and this can be achieved through internet advertising.

Online marketing is generally cheaper than traditional marketing. It costs very little if it does cost anything at all. The amount of people you reach is also on a bigger scale than traditional marketing. Just think about it. More than half the population has internet connection which means that your advertising will reach most of these people. This is useful in most cases; however, there are situations where traditional marketing is much better.

For instance, you have a small salon in your area. You want to advertise your services. Dispersing flyers in your town may be more effective than internet marketing. Your target market here is only the people in your immediate area and not all internet users. Because internet marketing is so affordable, it could only help to incorporate both forms of marketing.

SEO and PPC – major marketing tools

Back to internet marketing; there are two major players in this arena. They are known as SEO or search engine optimisation and PPC. SEO is mainly to do with search engines and the way they operate. What this campaign does is it improves the traffic flow to a particular website as well as the quality of such traffic. This traffic moves via search engines either naturally or inorganically.

PPC is another form of internet marketing that is also incorporated on search engines as well as advertising networks and websites. How this works is that website owners who wish to make use of PPC are required to pay a certain amount for advertisement, however only when the internet user clicks on the link. This means that for every click that a user makes on a link to a particular site, the website owner of such a link pays a predetermined amount to the website that has made such a platform for exposure available.

Choosing to use PPC

PPC compared to SEO is much more expensive mainly because you have to pay for all clicks. A person who clicks on your link is not always a guarantee that they will make a transaction on your site or even stay long enough to have a look at your product. This means that you end up paying for the person to visit your site and get nothing in return. You are often unaware of how many clicks you will receive and so it becomes impossible to plan a budget. You could end up spending much more than planned.

On the other hand, PPC rates are very low and at least you get that exposure you need regardless of it not securing any guarantees.
