Yahoo! has decided to make some changes and updates to the Flickr website and these changes have been welcomed by Flickr users. The changes carried out have been to the results page that is displayed when a search is carried out on the website.
The way images can be viewed on the image results page has now been extended. These options are featured at the top of the page and allow Flickr users to view the images in different sizes and also vary the format. An icon ‘i’ has also been added to each image that appears in the search results and by clicking on this ‘i’ the user will be provided with extra relevant details about the image. The ‘i’ is present when the user is viewing the images in small or medium format.
Yahoo! has also created a new way for the links that are offered with the search results to be chosen in order to increase the relevancy and usefulness of them for the user. The links will be determined by how the image or photograph has been tagged. Any links that are deemed relevant based on this could be displayed. An example of a link that may feature next to the search results may be one that would take the user to the website of the photographer who actually took the photograph.
There will also now be the opportunity for more specific and refined searches to be carried out by the Flickr user. When a detailed term is entered into the search box, the results page that is displayed for the user will show them how the algorithm used by the search engine has viewed their query and offer them suggestions using the details given for them to click on to view even more specific results and information.
The changes made to Flickr are being viewed as positive developments and as little improvements that can really help the users of the website. These users are also very pleased as it shows that Yahoo! does not plan on ignoring the Flickr website and that it is still of great importance to the company. This is a very positive step for Yahoo! in keeping the users of Flickr happy and feeling appreciated and therefore making it less likely that they will take their custom to a competitor.
