There is only one reason any entrepreneur creates a website for his business. He wants to attract web traffic that are potential customers and then he wants to convert them into clients. There is simply no other reason why any business would create a website. There are basically three methods that a searcher can ever find your website amongst the billions.
The easiest and fastest way for a searcher to reach your website is by typing your website name. The drawback here is that it can only work if the searcher knows your URL. Therefore, this method is of no use if you want to attract a potential customer who does not know you yet. When you have a well-established website and have built good links to other websites, this is a great way to reach potential customers.
This can only work though if you have already have good web traffic that other sites will wish to link to. The most used method for people to get to your website is through doing a search via the search engines. This is where your search engine optimisation efforts step up to the plate.
Keywords and ranking
The job of the search engines is to find specifically what searchers are looking for. When a net surfer enters a specific keyword, the SE will comb through the entire web to find matches.
The SE then takes it up a level and ranks all the web pages across the whole WWW that match the keywords. To be even remotely in the running, your website must make it to that crucial first page in the search results or you might just as well be invisible. So you stuff a whole lot of keywords on each of your web pages and wait for the customers to come to you. Unfortunately that is a fantasy and SEO takes a lot more than that to bring you good web traffic.
Search engines are not stupid
Google freely admits that more than 100 factors go into how sites are ranked. The SE must first of all believe your website has the information the searcher wants. Here we come to value; your website must have value with excellent keyword rich content. Not any type of content, even great content, is good enough. It has to be product and industry related.
Do not risk penalisation
Search engine optimisers are worth their salt as they have gained experience in all the areas of top-notch SEO. Search engines have evolved to where sloppy websites, keyword stuffing, and blind excessive linking will get you penalised. Successful SEO is a juggling act of a myriad factors and tactics that please the SE’s to give a website that coveted high ranking. It is not about knowing all the SEO techniques, it about knowing how to use them successfully. It is not worth risking your business to save a few pounds by trying to get your website optimised by an incompetent person or to DIY between trying to run your business.
