There is no miracle methodology involved in SEO. While there is a sure and tested wrong way in the form of Black Hat SEO there are also a lot of myths that prevent many from getting involved.
1. Many think that for the average person SEO is too hard to understand. Actually it isn’t hard to understand. Even basic organic optimization that employs ethical or white hat method will reap benefits. As one gets more involved SEO can become very complex. But even complex methods are based on basic understanding. There are many websites and blogs available that can teach the basics of SEO step by step.
2. SEO takes up too much time. Many people think this is true. Again the core of good SEO is the basics. If your content has been created in line with ethical practice and your website design is good you are halfway there. All it takes from there is maintaining your site, posting new items regularly and keeping abreast of search engine algorithm changes. It also helps to keep an eye on what the competition is doing.
3. It is a myth that once a website has been indexed by a search engine the work is done. This is far from the truth. In fact it may be the start of the journey. Being submitted is no guarantee of high rankings. All it does it get you on the sitemap of the World Wide Web. Being indexed is just one process of SEO.
4. There is no need to submit a site to hoards of search engines. Many who practice SEO do this and live to regret it. This takes a lot of work which could be better spent where it counts. Concentrate on search engines that most people use or the ones that are up and coming.
5. Contrary to popular belief it is possible for one person to maintain a large website. It entails taking one item at a time. Starting with WebPages what needs to be done is to focus attention on those pages that garner most interest. Keep in mind that each webpage is an entry to your site. In-between focusing on popular pages work on the others.
6. It is simply not possible to get a website ranked in the top ten overnight. While many black hat techniques will get it there quicker SEO requires a lot of patience. Yet the long terms benefits are worth it. In fact it is often said that rankings should be second place to providing a service to your visitors. If you can adopt this mindset then you can relax and concentrate on the task without getting too stressed out about it. If you are following white hat SEO traffic will come.
7. SEO in an ongoing process. It is not possible to abandon SEO once you are ranking well. This is a myth. To keep high rankings you need to be in constant control over what is happening on your website. It needs constant revamping, new postings, and new offerings and updated design. You are catering for traffic and if they find a static and outdated site, they will get turned off and turned toward your competitors.
