If you are running an online business and want it to do well, you have to know your target audience and have a clear understanding of who it is you are trying to get to arrive on the pages of your website. Who you are trying to target with your business affects all of the search engine optimisation techniques you use and how successfully these marketing methods work for your business.

There are three main types of visitor the majority of online business owners are trying to target:

1. Those that are interested in the products and services offered by their company. It seems like common sense to try and attract those with a genuine interest or need in your business when trying to make sales but amazingly, a large number of business owners aim to attract as many visitors to their sites as possible without thinking about the relevancy of this traffic.

This approach may work for some but the majority of successful websites are using methods that help them to attract the attention of those who already have an interest in what it is they are offering. It is considerably easier to sell a product to a searcher who has already been looking for an item you stock than it is to sell to a visitor who has not previously considered or needed a product like this.

Targeting the right users will help your site grow

2. Those that know a little about their business. Convincing online consumers your business is respectable and trustworthy and that you are the best within your market can be extremely challenging. However, if you are carrying out effective reputation management, this will be easier and you then want those who are aware of your business and who like it to be arriving on your site. If you can get visitors who have already read content about your company and have a basic understanding of what your company is about and offering on your website, you will once again have a greater chance of making sales.

3. Those that are familiar with purchasing goods online and are not afraid to do so. There are still some internet users who are afraid to purchase items from online stores because they worry about secure and personal details being hacked by others and because they do not trust online businesses to deliver what they say. Trying to convince visitors of this kind to purchase from you can be hard but can be achieved with the right SEO advice. It is however a great deal easier if the traffic arriving on your site is used to purchasing online and is happy to do so.

Directing the right type of traffic to your website is essential in search engine optimisation and is something we at SEO Consult Australia can help you with. The building of high quality links is how you can ensure you direct appropriate visitors to your web pages and we can build links of this type for you.
