Your business cannot afford the price of mistakes

Veteran website owners feel they have learned all the tricks and they cannot fall prey to the most common mistakes that happen in search engine optimisation. Over confidence is the biggest mistake anyone can make and that is exactly when you fall into a deep hole.

Others fall into that same very deep SEO hole because they get careless in the race for ranking. It is understandable that the highest ranking possible is what everyone aims for. Visibility is everything in online marketing.

Taking note instead of the most common mistakes that creep into optimisation if more important than blindly chasing a higher ranking. That is why it is wise to go over the deep hole traps regularly to keep them fresh in the mind.

Those all important tags

Lately mega tags have lost their importance where the largest search engines are concerned, yet it is still possible to misuse them. This will cause your website significant damage in the long run. It must always be guarded against using the same Meta descriptions on all the website pages as this negatively influences your ranking.

Meta keywords must be page specific and not across pages and never use that Meta tag description more than three times. The title tag of each page is vital and must never be duplicated. If you use the same title tag for more than one page the SE’s notice it immediately.

The search engines will simply discard the importance of that page, and no-one can afford that. Even veteran website owners and optimisers have to be on their guard at all times. It is incredibly easy to slip up with especially the page title tags.

Keep your links clean

It is hammered upon continuously about how important internal links is for a website. If you go overboard with too many internal links the spiders will give up halfway during their crawling. This means your website will not be indexed. Hence why Google has brought in a maximum restriction of 100 links for a web page.

For optimisation purposes links must be created with text. Stay away from images; this is a bad idea where Search Engine Optimisation is concerned.  Too many links on a page that use the same words is simply keyword stuffing, so keep a look-out for that. It is important though to have multiple links on every web page. A single incoming link can easily fall prey to that deep hole called the supplemental index. You do not want to have to battle to get your web page out of there.

Spam devils and dodgy neighbourhoods

Spam has become a dirty word on the Internet. It has become such a problem that the SE’s have changed their linking algorithms. This means it has become impossible for a garden landscaping website to link to a car rental website. No blind linking can be done anymore and spam is to blame for that. Your links must be to industry related websites or websites that have a related theme to your website. There are many holes out there and the only way to avoid them is to be vigilant.
