There are plenty of content ideas lists floating around the net. With every site requiring lots of quality content for SEO purposes, content ideas are something that every site owner is always after. In fact, the ‘top 10 content ideas’ list is a commodity in itself, one which you should be able to find thousands of versions of around the net.

What isn’t often explored is the unusual content idea. When everyone around you is pushing out a ‘how to’ article or an interesting list every other week, the interest in such articles is certain to go down. The competition between articles is also likely to go up. To give your page a fighting chance, you need to find a way to stand out, be different. Here are seven ways to achieve this in your SEO content:

  1. Industry events. The one thing you have access to which your target user groups don’t is the inside track of your industry. Although internet users aren’t going to be interested in every little twitch of your industry, an occasional piece of gossip should create a stir.
  2. Expert discussions. This isn’t so much an unusual content idea for your search engine optimisation plan, as a rare one. Expert interviews are understandably rare, which doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try for them. Talk to us at SEO Consult Australia about how expert interviews can help build industry relationships.
  3. Tell a story. Stories have a strange way of drawing the reader in, even on the internet. Distributing a piece of advice by telling your site users a story from your work day can be a great way to develop the tone of your site, make it more personal, help your site users and provide quality content all in one blow.
  4. History. Knowing the history of a subject is the first step to understanding it, and internet users are always trying to understand subjects. Like story-telling, history-telling can make for some fascinating reading amongst all the advice lists and bullet points. Handily, history is also very easy to uncover, as it’s happening all the time.
  5. Case studies. Every industry has its own kind of case studies, be it online shopping or online investment. The unusual situations you encounter or hear about could be of help to your customers, and provide some really good reading.
  6. Article series. Hardly any websites feature articles in a series, although it’s difficult to understand why. A good series attracts an increasing amount of readers over time, and keeps new readers on the site for longer. It also provides several days or weeks’ worth of material, springing from a single idea. It’s much easier to carry out as a writer, too, as it requires less research than undertaking new topics with every article.
  7. Question sessions. No matter what kind of site you run, it’s likely that your site users have a few questions that no-one has answered. Taking user questions on board and answering them one at a time can provide some excellent ongoing content ideas.
