Gaining enough content to maintain a site’s good rankings can be a real hassle. It’s probably the element of a modern website that requires the most work. For most site owners, the hard work seems to be simply in the amount of content required. For a lot of site owners, however, the hardest work really is in finding the right kind of content for their site.

The amount of low-quality content on the net is staggering to anyone involved in SEO. Too many site owners have adopted the strategy that any content is good content, posting any old slop to maintain their content schedule. This is bad for their sites, and bad for the net in general.

The problem of quality content can be resolved by obtaining content from a professional, and you can talk to us at SEO Consult Australia about content provision. If you haven’t sourced your content from a professional writer, it is vital to know the four basic pillars of good content:

1. Has keywords in all the right places. Anyone who has even a rudimentary knowledge of search engine optimisation will know that keywords are important. A lot forget that placing keywords within article headlines is a must for SEO. It helps your search engine optimisation plan if you do it wherever you can.

Having keywords dotted throughout your text is also essential, but these days the search engines are concentrating more on the overall relationship between the content and the keyword. This means that if you want your content to score high in the relevance stakes, the entire piece needs to be related to your keyword topic.

2. Has sufficient weight. One of the essentials of content that is often overlooked is the need for length in content. Simply sticking a couple of paragraphs on your pages isn’t going to be enough to convince the search engines of your quality. At the same time, though, you need to be aware of the need for concise content, so as not to scare your readers away with bulky, text-filled pages.

A good size for content is between 250 and 300 words. This allows enough room for a few keyword mentions without having the appearance of keyword stuffing. It also allows you to explore the topic fully.

3. Is well-structured. It’s important that your content not only follows a logical path but that it appears well-structured. Internet users are more likely to stick around for content is pleasing to the eye. For this reason, most internet writers advise the use of bullet points and numbered lists.

4. Is linked throughout – and outside – your site. As with everything, it’s not just what you know but who you know. You can establish the relevance of your content to its keywords through the content it links to and is linked from. If a home decorating magazine links into your home decorating article, you appear to have more credibility. If your article is also linked to from your other ranking home decorating pages, its relevance is also boosted – handily, in a way you can control.
