The content that features on your website is highly important and creating it appropriately is vital if your website is to ever be ranked highly in the search results of the search engines. Content must be relevant, unique, informative and interesting if it is going to be deemed useful and of high quality not only by the search engines but more importantly also by the visitors to your website. There are often tips available on things you should do when you are writing website content but there are also some things that you should avoid doing when writing website content.

It is important that when writing website content you don’t create it specifically for the search engines. If you write content for search engines it will not flow easily for your readers and will not be useful to them either. The whole point of getting traffic to your website is to sell your products and services to these visitors once they arrive. If you don’t sell your business to them effectively through the content you present them with, they will quickly leave your web pages and begin their exploration of the website of a competitor. Content must be written so that it is informative, relevant and also interesting so that visitors are likely to find it helpful but also fairly enjoyable reading too. Content must not be written for the search engines.

You should also avoid filling your website content with keywords. As previously mentioned, content has to be written for visitors to the website and if you fill your content with as many keywords as possible as often as is possible, this will not mean that the content can be easily read and understood. Keyword stuffing is not advantageous in any way. It will put visitors off and likely make them turn elsewhere for their needs and the web crawlers of the search engines can also detect when keyword stuffing has taken place and do not like this type of manipulation. Websites recognised as overusing keywords will be punished with lower rankings.

Another thing you shouldn’t do when creating website content is try to manipulate the search engines by including hidden text in the content produced. It is possible to do this by the choice of colour and size of the text but this is a black hat method and that means the search engines do not recommend this as a SEO technique and that they will drop the rankings of any website found to be doing it. This can be tempting for some businesses as text that will appeal to search engines can be secretly included and will not be noticed by visitors to the websites but any business wanting to carry out a respectable SEO campaign should not use an SEO method like this.

These are just a few of the things you should avoid doing when you are creating content for your website. Content plays a vital role in search engine optimisation and should always be written carefully and thoughtfully. It can be beneficial to seek professional assistance for the writing of website content.
