All online businesses create websites and fill it with fully optimised content for one reason only. Businesses want to attract web traffic to their websites and keep them interested until the visitors can be converted into paying customers. Search engine optimisation of a website is not a mystery; it means having in-depth knowledge of SEO and working hard at it.

SEO can be an intricate and complicated effort, or it can be fairly smooth, depending how it is approached. The whole optimisation effort starts with keywords. Those industry and business specific keywords improve your efforts at online marketing.

The problem with many over-enthusiastic website owners is that they run with their chosen keywords in all directions. This is the perfect way to end up ruining what could have been good web content. Repetitive keyword stuffing is mechanical and annoying.

It confuses and irritates readers and annoys the search engines.  This is also bad optimisation that lays waste to your SEO efforts. Quality and fresh content please the search engines most and original keyword rich content is best for ranking.  There are three places in your web content where using keywords has the most value.  Optimisation efforts should focus on these three areas.

Title tags

It is of top importance to use keyword rich title tags on your web pages; and usually comprises of the name of the business plus a short description. It is in this description that the keyword or words must be included. A good idea is to keep the keywords on the left side of the page. The reason is that the web crawlers read from left to right and give preference to words on the left. Keep the title tag compact as well. Search engines will only display a maximum of 68 characters.  So omit lengthy descriptions and concentrate on getting the keywords into it.

Synonyms to main keywords

When web content is being written for SEO, it is very important to look at all the synonyms for the main keywords being used. Thing prevents content from becoming monotonous and keeps it interesting. Bringing in variety that still focus on the main keyword gives an extra edge when searchers do a search.

Often they will search with a synonym of the main keyword and in this way they still end up coming to your website. There are some great keyword thesaurus tools available to help widen the synonym pool of the main keywords.

Headings and sub-headings

Another area that can be optimised well with keywords is the headings and sub-headings or content. Both the headings and sub-headings draw the attention of the search engines and get preference.

Do not neglect this area as it is good SEO to utilise keyword rich headings. It allows you to bring in your keywords in a well fitting place that is sensible and flows naturally. By placing keywords in the above areas that are targeted by the search engine spiders you add far more relevance to the keywords than the same keywords use within content.
