Writing content without keywords may produce a better end product, yet skipping this step could result in missing out on the benefits and opportunities that keywords offer and may result in your site not getting found on search engines, essentially you are at risk of losing traffic.

Missing keywords

It is not realistic to expect that the item you are writing about will just naturally include keywords just because you know a lot about the topic you are writing about.  For SEO to work, you may need to include different terminology pertaining to the service or product in your niche which you are writing about.  Why you make ask?  Visitors use a wide range of words to try to find what they are looking for and if your writing is to provide them with this, you should understand that nobody used the same vocabulary, grammar or even spelling.  If you are targeting a global market it is good to understand this so that you can maximise the end result of your Search Engine Optimisation campaign.

People also use search engines in different ways too, some like to use two or three words while others prefer to use entire sentences.  Skipping the step of keyword research to find out which words are most popular may result in your targeting only those who you think like you while forgetting about all the others who may or may not accidentally find you.

Some people may be looking for a wide range of things related to your topic while others may be looking for something very specific. Doing your homework and researching keywords should provide you with some of the related topics people use in their searches which means people can find you, search engines can rank your site and your SEO campaign has better chance of being successful.

The only way you could possibly and accurately predict related topics is if you are an absolute guru in your field, yet even so you may still be wrong about terminology, or there may be brand new related topics you are not familiar with as trends change and newer keywords become popular, sometimes instantly.

Researching keywords will highlight these hurdles, or at least make one realise there are some topics that have been covered on your website.  Covering the many topics related to your niche field gives your website authority and the ability to answer the many search queries, getting more traffic in from a wider array of keywords.

At the end of the day, it is important to research all possible keywords before you start writing about your topic, especially if you want a successful website and a successful Search Engine Optimisation campaign.  If you want this, then you want to attract traffic from each and every keyword related to your content and you want to attract people who think differently and who search differently.

Ignoring keywords in the hope that you will include target keywords naturally will allow a wide range of potential visitors to fall off the radar.
