One way through which most web masters try to cheat or trick search engines into getting better rankings is by keyword stuffing. This is a very unscrupulous way of trying to do things and it entails loading the page with as many key words as possible.
Apart from the penalties which come with the use of this cheap technique, it also makes unimaginative and dreary reading thus you may cheat the machine not the human eye. There are times when some of the web masters try to evade the detection by the machine by placing the key words at the bottom of the site. This also makes poor reading and should be avoided.
Hidden text also means a hidden cost
Another poor method that is also used by web masters as they try to make sure that they are ranked better is through hidden text. This is a variation of keyword stuffing with the only difference being that the web master tries to hide the text. One way of doing so for a better SEO is by making sure that the colour of the text is the same as the background colour so that the human eye would not be able to detect the nuisance.
You may be able to register a short lived success but because this is not a firm foundation to build your search engine optimization, things will crumble after a short period. It may be worse if the site is penalized. It is also important to note that it is not the machines only which visit the site looking for these unorthodox methods. Your competitors are also regular visitors to your sight and they may the ones who would report the use of hidden text to the detriment of the organization.
Cloaking may cheat the machine not the visitors
There are some web masters who may want to appear smart and try to use the cloaking which entails giving out different information to the search engines than would be visible to the human eye. This is one of the methods which is currently being used by some web masters as it is still difficult for search engines to discover the tricks. However, the fact remains, if found it would lead to the penalization of the site which is against the grain of the intention of SEO.
