Avoidable homepage horrors

Far too many online businesses forget to look at their own websites from a visitor’s point of view. They forget the exact frustrations they, themselves experience when doing any online shopping. People get over-enthusiastic with their website design and turn a deaf ear to their web developer and SEO consultant. They want to do it their way or the highway.

With this scenario is that a large portion of their prospective customers choose the highway as well. When a searcher clicks on your URL in the search page results they normally land on your homepage. This is your online display window and if you insisted on my way or highway design it is not surprising that many visitors will leave fast. Those with tenacity might stay a bit longer and then go to greener pastures too.

Annoy them into leaving

There are excellent ways to make your visitors go over to your competition. Loading your homepage with an overabundance of dynamic scripts and applications and images. This results in the page loading sluggishly. Having totally products and services than what is described in the search engine results. This holds true for products and services that are unrelated to what they searched for.

Making use of terms that your visitor cannot understand at all. Making your page so busy that the poor visitor becomes totally confused and forgets why he came to your website in the first place. The majority of website owners will flatly deny being guilty of any of these offences. Yet these are some of the top complaints searchers have with a large percentage of websites.

Be approachable

To stand out in the search engine results, you must have a completely accurate title tag. Your homepage gives an overview of your website, so this is your goal and should contain your primary keyword or keyword phrase. Get rid of all hype, nobody believes the rant of a snake oil salesman. Be honest and genuine in your description without superlative adjectives. Nobody believes all the amazing and stupendous and unique added to descriptions. Keyword stuffing in your description and title tags. It might make sense to search engines, but not to humans.

Give them reasons to browse deeper

Remember, the search engines can only lead your site visitors to your front door; the rest is up to you to make them welcome enough to want to have a look around. Search engine optimisers and web developers are experienced; they work with this every day. A wise entrepreneur listens to their advice. Let them do their jobs with your input, but do not bulldoze along for this is a sure way to make your web traffic leave.

Internet users are much smarter about what they want than when the Internet was still new. They are aware of all the other companies out there that offer the same products and services as you do. If you shut the door in their faces with an unfriendly homepage, you have lost a potential customer. No business can afford losing customers through issues that can easily be avoided.
