Black hat search engine optimisation techniques are frowned upon by most involved in search engine optimisation and by most internet users too. Ethical search engine optimisation companies are constantly stating the importance of using only white hat SEO methods and yet many companies continue to behave unethically and use manipulation and dishonesty to help them to achieve higher rankings in the search results and increase the amount of traffic that visits their websites.

Black hat SEO has always been an issue but the search engines have always been seen to be working to deter business owners from using methods like this. New search engine technology is regularly being developed to identify black hat methods and businesses found to be using unethical SEO techniques punished with lower rankings and even a ban from the search engine all together. However, in recent months it appears to some that increasing numbers of businesses are using blatant black hat SEO methods and appear to be getting away with it.

If this is the case and is noticed by other businesses too, it may become tempting for increasing numbers of site owners to employ methods like this and damage their SEO campaigns in the future. While some involved in SEO are claiming that the big search engines such as Google have lost touch with the customer and are concentrating on making money instead of providing users with a high quality search experience, it is more likely that the search engines are aware of what is going on and are working on new ways to stop this taking place. Black hat SEO has always been around and it has never been acceptable in the eyes of the search engines.

It may be that issues with the search engine technology is reducing how well monitored black hat SEO is in some areas or that spam reporting is no longer an efficient way to let the search engines know about unethical businesses because there is such a lot of black hat SEO taking place. Either way, those experienced in SEO know that it is just a matter of time before these websites are noticed to be using black hat SEO and that the search engines will punish these websites more harshly to deter others from being tempted to do the same.

The search engines will always care about black hat SEO because methods like this stop them from providing their users with a high quality search experience and so it is important that only white hat SEO methods are used in an SEO campaign.
