Building links is a vital part of search engine optimisation. Links to your website can help visitors and potential customers find your website and what it has to offer in many different ways and from many different sources. These links are also significant because they can help the web crawlers used by search engines to find, index and rank your web pages too. The establishment of good quality links to your website can greatly improve your chances of a search engine viewing your website favourably and so link building is a necessary part of SEO and an SEO method that requires a lot of time and consideration. There are a few common myths that exist about link building in search engine optimisation and these myths can lead businesses in the wrong direction when they are building links for their website.

It is often thought by businesses that are just starting out in search engine optimisation and are looking to create links to their websites that the links they use must be from other websites that feature similar and relevant content. Whilst it is always beneficial to have relevant links to your website so that users will find the information helpful and respectability and credibility can be gained for a business through its association with another relevant company, links that are not of great relevance will not damage the ranking of a website. High quality links are always recommended but it is not necessary for a business to worry about being penalised if a link to the website is from a non-relevant source.

The location of links is also another area for consideration and a common myth is that links should not be placed on new web pages or on pages which do not feature a lot of content and are not ranked highly already by the search engines. Quality links located anywhere within the web pages of a website can be advantageous and if other pages are optimised effectively and already feature high quality links, it is recommended to have links on other pages of the site too.

Whilst adding numerous links to your website may attract the attention of the search engines in a negative way and may lead them to conclude that you are trying to manipulate them through adding as many links as possible, genuinely adding many relevant and top quality links to your website should not damage the way you are ranked by the search engines, as long as the number of links established in a short amount of time is within reason.

Link building is such an important part of search engine optimisation it is recommended that some basic knowledge about the best way to add links and the type of links that will be advantageous should be gathered before link building begins. We at SEO Consult can help you with all stages of your link development and give you the necessary information and assistance so that the links you have to your website will be a beneficial part of your search engine optimisation campaign.
