The website you have has a massive influence over whether your online business is successful or not. While it is of course of great importance to attract and direct as much relevant traffic to your website as possible, your website has to have been developed appropriately if you are going to hold the interest of this traffic and encourage these visitors to become customers of your business. There are some common design mistakes that can have a negative effect on your website and deter visitors from exploring your website further.

A complicated URL is a common issue and something that can cause trouble for a business. URLs that are long and that feature different symbols can be difficult to remember and can look unprofessional too. If trying to attract the attention of the search engines and to be remembered by users that have already visited your website, it is highly recommended that you use a simple and short URL that is relevant to your business.

A badly designed website in terms of visitor navigation is another common design issue that can be a problem. Visitors like to explore a website quite thoroughly if seriously considering becoming a customer and this means that they have to be able to go between different and important web pages within the site easily and quickly. If they feel confused and they can’t find the information they are looking for, they will likely leave the site and explore the pages of a competitor instead.

Pop-ups are another design issue that can be annoying for internet users. When carrying out a search online and trying to gather information or looking for something to purchase, it can be extremely annoying to be interrupted by an unexpected advert that has pooped up on your screen. Often adverts like this will be relevant to the content of the web page you are visiting, but this does not make them any more acceptable. Users like to choose their own adverts to view in more detail and a pop-up advert immediately puts them off exploring the offer further and may put them off your website too. Traditional web page adverts are the safer option if you must feature adverts on your website.

Flash is another common design flaw. Whilst Flash can help a website to look professional and add a special and entertaining touch, it can also mean that the web pages take longer to load and that visitors have to wait a lot longer before they can access the content they wish to view. Users want to access information quickly and easily and Flash can stop them from doing this. Flash is also a problem from the view of SEO because the search engines do not crawl web pages of Flash.

We at SEO Consult can help you to identify and rectify any design problems within the web pages of your site so that when your search engine optimisation campaign increases the amount of traffic that visits your website, these visitors will be more likely to become customers of your business.
