We’ve been using keywords as the foundation of SEO and search for so long now that it’s difficult to think of any other way. Others have been thinking of other ways, however, and it’s time for site owners to prepare. Keywords aren’t necessarily the only concept involved in search’s future.

The advent of mobile search has meant some significant changes in the way the internet is used. The immediacy of mobile browsing, and the reasons that people search, has brought search engine optimisation back to single or double-word keywords, among other things. You can discuss this with us at SEO Consult Australia. It has also prompted advances in search technologies. Take image search, for example.

Image searches allow mobile users to search using a picture, rather than keywords. On seeing a product or company that they’re interested in, users can take a photo with their phone, upload it to Google, and have matching pages returned.

The search still works on a keyword basis, but this time the keywords are coming from the site owners, rather than users. Site owners link keywords to important images, which then come up when Google searches its image database for matching concepts. As you can guess, proactive site owners are the ones currently benefitting.

Many site owners are still adjusting to the need to include mobile search in their SEO strategy. The need to incorporate image and keyword matching hasn’t even come on the radar for a lot of businesses. This will soon change. Make sure you don’t have too much catching up to do.
