Is keyword stuffing ever good policy?

First let’s start with keywords.  Every webpage or Meta tag on a webpage needs keywords.  The keywords we are speaking about are the ones that you have chosen to best represent your offerings.  They are also what attract traffic to your site.  When people search the “net” they search with words.  If your keywords are amongst those words then you should be able to drive traffic to your site.  The higher up you website is in a search engines rankings, the more traffic you are likely to attract.

Most important however is that keywords are what search engine spiders look for on your web pages in order to index your site in their results listing.  Therefore they have a dual purpose.  Without keywords your site will not be successful.

However there are rules and regulations around keywords.  From a search engines point of view they only want a certain amount per keyword count per page.  Any more than this and they consider your content forced.  From a human point of view WebPages that are stuffed to overflowing with the same keywords throughout are boring and difficult to read.  Your website in this instance will not be considered of any value as it won’t be offering any knowledge.

Writing web content

Generally around 4-5 keywords per article are sufficient.  However it is possibly easier to work on a percentage basis.  1%-2% is acceptable for both spiders and humans.  If you work with freelance content writers you may need to check their work carefully.  Most freelance writers are interested more in the quality of the content than in the exact number of keywords.  Your web content needs to appeal to both machine and human and in this way you will provide a higher SEO success rate.

Black Hat Keyword Stuffing

Keyword stuffing is considered a Black Hat Technique. Not maybe but definately.  If someone offers to stuff your content with keywords this means that your content will end up being useless or irrelevant.  The simple act of putting gin too many keywords or keyword phrases into a body of content may seem like a good idea until you get found out by a search engine.  Perhaps you may not be aware you are doing it, if this is the case you may need to pay someone to do some proofreading for you.

However if you are aware and are allowing it in the hope of achieving higher rankings you will be making a mistake.  Search engines in the past had their own reasons for allowing keyword stuffing to slip by.  Today they are very aware of this method and have put numerous methods in place to stop it.  Their algorithms have been changed so that keyword stuffing won’t fall through the cracks.  Search engine algorithms now check the unity of your text and place higher value on the quality of your content.

If your keywords exceed the ratio that has been stipulated by search engine algorithms. If you want to continue trading online via your website then keyword stuffing is never a good policy.
