Search engine optimization is the buzzword on every website owner’s lips these days and it is no surprise as to why. Nobody can get anywhere on the internet unless they subscribe to the rules and guidelines of SEO. Without an ounce of optimization, your website is not likely to show up on any of the search engine search results pages.

So yes, optimization is a very important part of your website’s success. Now, there are a million and one tips, tricks, pieces of advice and absolute nonsense out there on the internet. It is just as easy to stumble upon the wrong information as it is to come across the right stuff.

The online press release

What is a press release? Online press releases are very similar to their hard copy publication counterparts. They are articles written in order to gain publicity and interest in your company. However, that is where the similarity between the two ends. In all other respects, online press releases are a completely different ball game to their hard copy cousins. Online press releases need to be optimised, where hard copy releases do not. The online world is also much vaster than the world publications can cater to. In that respect, an online press release has bigger shoes to fill and a harder job to do.

The optimization side of things

When it comes to off-site search engine optimization, press releases are a huge benefit to your website and there are several reasons for this. The first reason is that you can target different keywords to the ones used on your business website.

Different online press release can target different keywords in order to attract attention to them and to you. This allows you leeway to use a wider variety of industry, product or service related keywords. What that means is that you will be able to reach a wider target audience that is using a myriad of different keywords and phrases to search for what you have to offer.

The next reason is that press releases often generate great, quality back links to your website. Back links are far more important to your website than you may think they are. Back links from quality sources let the search engines know that your website is good news. These links tell the SEs that you are trustworthy, interesting and popular with that particular website’s own visitors.

This in turn bumps up your credibility and your SEO as well as your SERP rank. The third way in which press releases up your search engine optimization is that they focus your content more sharply. On your website, your content is focussed on the industry you are in, the products you sell or the services you offer. However, press releases sell news which has highly focused search criteria. When your target audience is searching from specific news, they are much more likely to come across your press release than they are your website.

Making it count

Writing an online press release is not enough to guarantee an increase in your SEO efforts. Oh no, you need an excellently written and well-optimized press release in order for it to work its magic for your website. All in all, press releases are great off-site optimization for your website and every business should get into it.
