There is no denying that Google is currently the most powerful and popular search engine that internet users all over the world turn to when they have a search query. It is therefore of no surprise that recently released figures show Google as having a 58% growth rate and an increase in its share of global search. Results like this confirm that Google is still outperforming its main competitors such as Yahoo! and Microsoft. However, what may be surprising to some is that the Russian search engine Yandex has shown an impressive growth rate over recent months and is gaining in popularity rapidly. Yandex also increased its amount of global search share with an increase of 0.3%. Whilst this may not sound like a large amount of share increase, Google was the only other search engine to also have increased its share of this market with the other competitors remaining static or decreasing slightly. Therefore, this is a highly positive result for Yandex and is gaining the search engine further attention.

Yandex was launched in Russia in 1997 and is viewed as the first major search engine in Russia that was created to deal appropriately with queries that were placed by Russian users in the Russian language. Such a complex language of course creates some quite demanding issues in terms of how a search engine can handle the query efficiently and effectively and Yandex did not shy away from this task, becoming a firm favourite in Russia. The success of Yandex demonstrates the importance of language in search engine optimisation. Most of the popular search engines currently being used are based on the English language. Whilst it is often possible for these search engines to operate in a different language, the results are not regularly impressive.

Yandex is achieving such success because of the impressive search technology it uses that allows searches in such a complicated language such as Russian to be carried out effectively. The use of language is a key factor for search engines in any country and an important issue to consider in search engine optimisation.

At SEO Consult we remain updated on all search engine activity and developments to ensure that we are aware of any necessary changes required within our search engine optimisation campaigns. This recent success of Yandex is particularly interesting in terms of what makes a search engine operate efficiently and what appeals to internet users. Google and Yandex are currently the search engines that are becoming more popular and taking more of the market share and so there is a lot to learn from them for the future of search engine optimisation. The technology used by these search engines is key and an important factor for consideration in any search engine optimisation campaign. SEO Consult can help any client identify the correct and most suitable search engine optimisation methods for their business depending on their individual needs. We can then help them implement these techniques into a successful search engine optimisation campaign.
