What is W3C?  For those who are new to computers W3C stands for World Wide Web Consortium.  Its purpose is to regulate the values and ethics regarding the Internet and which have been agreed upon by everyone involved.   It provides the platform on which web vendors can adhere to and maintain conformity and compatibility.   If the web is to reach its full potential then fundamental technologies need to be compatible with each on a universal level which includes the software and hardware that is used to access the internet.

W3C offers benefits for not only end users but also for developers.  Any website developed to be compliant with W3C will be more visible to search engines with goes a long way to helping with SEO.  If search engine optimisation is achieved then higher rankings are achieved and if higher rankings are achieved this leads to more traffic.  More traffic should convert into more sales.  Those who land on W3C websites enjoy benefits too in the way of accessibility, user friendly and interactive experiences.

Understanding the importance of W3C compliance

W3C compliance in website coding is clear cut.  Not all your customers will be using the same technology as you so building your website so that as many people as possible can access it is vital for SEO.  SEO at the moment tends to focus on major and well known search engines but this is changing as many people are opting for open source browsers as their preference.

When designing a website that is conforms to W3C standards whatever browser is being used becomes irrelevant.  You won’t lose information when it is displayed on their screen, so SEO will become in one aspect easier but in another aspect it will mean you will need to put more attention into it.

Companies are not required to adhere to web standards.  Yet doing so will help with SEO.  However in the world of the World Wide Web Consortium there is a standard language that has the ability to increase business.

Building your website so that is only fully accessible by those using certain web browsers may be easier for you yet you run the risk of losing out on potential business.  In the world of computers, if customers cannot reach you it is because your website is not speaking their language.

Web developers need to create sites that can maximise traffic in order for SEO to be successful.  Using W3C compliant code can mean winning the battle.

The mission statement of W3C reads “lead the Web to its fullest potential’.  It is doing this by being able to break down any barriers that exist between businesses and potential customers by creating code that allows any browser to view any web page.

In the present Age of Information the internet is proving itself by being the preferred vehicle to convey and provide information on a universal platform.  What one person sees in one part of the world is exactly the same in another part of the world. W3C is helping this along by developing and dispersing standard technologies that are universally inter operable.
