Small ripples, big effects

When you drop a pebble into a body of water like a pond, what happens? You will no doubt see a ripple effect happening from the point where the pebble entered the water. From there, the ripples will start out small and grow until they reach their end and a large size. Change is like that, no matter where or what the change is. Changes to your organic SEO campaign are no different and prescribe to the ripple effect as well. Small changes can end up creating large, favourable ripples in your SEO pond.  So forget about thinking big and start thinking about the small things that you can change in order to gain big differences.

Visible optimization

When you look at the optimization of a web page, you get two different types. You get the optimization that you can see; text and other visible factors. The second type is invisible factors but more about that later. One of the most important of your visible factors is your H! tag or your ‘header 1’ tag. This tag can be seen as the title of the content you are offering. This tag informs both your human and your engine visitors as to what the content is about. It is very important to make use of your keywords and key phrases in your H1 tags.

The change from not using keywords to using keywords in your H1 tags can have a large impact on your organic optimization efforts. Next comes your copy and that also comes in two types, namely permanent and temporary. Your permanent copy, such as your permanent content, is important but the temporary content is even more so.

You need to make sure that your temporary content is relevant, up to date and changed frequently.  Internal links bring up the rear end. Use anchor text as another place to use keywords and key phrases and make use of as many relevant and useful internal links as possible to make site navigation easy.

Invisible factors

Invisible factors are the ones that your human visitors cannot see but your engine visitors can. These are factors such as your title tags which tell the visiting web crawlers and engines exactly what the web page is all about. Here again, strategic use of keywords and phrases can make a huge difference. It is also worthwhile knowing that the search engines place more emphasis on your title tags than your H1 tags.

One thing you need to remember to optimize is your meta-description for when you land that coveted spot in the SERPs. One more tip is to not bury your web pages and content in sub folder upon sub folder. Having to go through a million sub folders to get to the desired information is a huge no-no.

Conclusion

Organic optimization can be done so much better with just a few small tweaks and changes that will deliver big results. You can never underestimate the power of change, no matter how small it may be.
