People talk and write about the positive things that your SEO consultant can do for your business and there is truly a long list of those. Yet, when clients contract with a consultant they have expectations that are not on that long list of positive benefits. There are simply things that your consultant cannot tell you, or give you as those are outside the possible. Thus when people are told something is not possible, they become frustrated. So let us look at those things that your SEO consultant cannot do, offer or guarantee.
Ranking
No optimizer can guarantee you ranking for a new website within two to three months. It takes months for a website to rank on the first page of the search results for specific keywords. Things that help to get a website to that first page are valuable content, ongoing blogging, participating in social media networking and relevant link building. These are factors pushing a website up the rankings, but it takes time that cannot be specified. The never the domain, especially if it newer than three years, the longer it will take to get up the ranking ladder.
It’s impossible for an SEO consultant to guarantee first, second, third or even fourth place. Getting on the first page is the aim and ideal target, but guarantees for those top four slots is impossible. Sadly, the reason people believe it is possible is because they believe the hyped up advertisements they see on the internet. Your position in the SERPS will not change every week. What optimisation efforts were put in last week will not make a change this week by pushing your ranking up several places. The concentrated efforts of last month are not guaranteed to do this. Week by week guaranteed changes is not possible.
Guarantees and Increased sales
Often clients want a SEO consultant to work on a results based remuneration basis for they feel this way he guarantees his efforts. Guarantees is not possible in any aspect of business, thus no professional optimiser will work on this basis. The aim of SEO efforts is to bring targeted traffic to your website and that is what the optimisation will achieve. To convert visitors into clients is not what optimisation does. Sales will depend on the quality of the products and services offered; the value of your content, as well as the demand and supply. Online promotion can boost sales as well as the credibility of the business, but optimisation cannot do that.
Jack of all trades
Your SEO consultant is a qualified professional in his niche; search engine optimisation. That is what his job is, to optimise each aspect of your website for maximum visibility and ranking. Your optimiser can have other skills such as programming, designing and marketing, but those are not skills you hire his services for. It is of course a bonus if he is multi-skilled, but the norm is for each professional to be skilled in his or her own niche.
