Whether businesses like the fact or not, the Blogosphere has and still is making a huge impact on the Internet. Bloggers make their opinions known; they are not bound by any code that restricts them from blabbing about bad services or mediocre products. Now, you as an entrepreneur can decide to totally ignore the very existence of the blogging community. That would be your choice.
This is a wonderful way to allow your business to be lambasted as you sail on oblivious. Taking this route you have only yourself to blame when your online reputation goes down the tubes and your business suffers. The Blogosphere is here to stay and it is the wise businessman that monitors the whisperings of the blogger community. How else will you know if they are talking about you and what they are saying?
Even if they are saying nothing about you, this is valuable information. There are different ways that a business responds to posts made about them. It all depends on what was said and it is important to know the correct way to respond.
None of very little whispering
If none of the blogs are talking about you, it is time you start blogging as it means that you are having a bit of an awareness or online presence problem. If you are already blogging it is time to blog less and start engaging readers in their own space. Very little being said means that the bloggers are aware of you, but don’t find much to say about you. This points to a communication problem. It means they are interested in you, but there is not a high degree of communication. You must respond to all blog postings about your business. Yes, that means not only to those that sing your praises. This is how you strengthen your existing presence in the Blogosphere.
Good whispers
If you find loads of whispers about you and most of it is good, you are in the pound seats. This means you are doing the right things and need to keep this up. Keep communication lines open with these blogs and always respond. This will mean a lot if there comes a time when there are negative postings; you already are entrenched and can respond easily.
Bad whispers
When you find out that they are talking about you all right, but most of the postings are negative there is no need to despair. This means that yes, you do have a problem but it can be solved with some work on your part. There may be a legitimate gripe about a bad service experience and you can respond to this. This is also an opportunity to improve that aspect of your business. The case may be that the bloggers are miffed because you are not responding to blog postings and they are talking to each other about this. Whatever the reason for bad posts about your business, things change when you start responding. The important factor is that you start interacting and responding. The Blogosphere is too important to ignore them.
