When less is more

When people speak in riddles it can be very confusing to try to understand something, so let’s put it straight. This is about less traffic being more valuable to your website than more traffic, as long as that traffic is top quality. Without quality, quantity is almost nothing. Well, at least that is how the cookie crumbles as far as SEO is concerned. There are so many website owners that get stuck on the notion of attracting scores of visitors to their websites. They can become blinded by this idea and lose sight of what quality means to them. So, let’s bring it all back to quality and discuss the issue thorough.

Less traffic is no disaster

There are so many online entrepreneurs, with their ecommerce websites up and running, that choose high traffic keywords. So what is the problem with that? After all, you want lots of traffic, right? Wrong, those high traffic keywords are not always the best option. In fact, they are usually a bad option. High traffic keywords are dogged by a huge amount of competition by a large number of websites wanting to use the exact same keywords. Many ecommerce website owners do not get the fact that popular keywords are not going to necessarily drive the right traffic your way.

They go ahead and jump into the fray and usually come out worse for wear. This is because there is always a website selling the exact same thing that you are that has been around longer, has better organic SEO and has more customers that are loyal. Unless you can seriously compete with the big corporations for one of the top spots on the first page, you are never going to get the exposure you need to make a decent profit.

Secondly, the volume of traffic generated from the most popular high traffic keywords very seldom consists of a majority of possible buyers. Many of these people are window shopping and don’t have much to offer you. In this instance, less traffic is a good thing when it is quality traffic and more traffic is not so great when it has no quality to offer you.

Fine focussing

What you need to do in order to attract the correct type of traffic is to finely focus the keywords you choose to use. Using specific and long-tailed keywords is your key to success. Only people who know what they want and those who are prepared to make a purchase will use those keywords. It is these people that you want to attract to your website. This means that you are getting quality traffic that has something to offer you in return. However, getting your customers to your website by using the correct words is only half the battle won. Once they are on your website, you need to keep them there and convince them to convert to a paying customer.

Make life easier

In order to convert that quality traffic into profit, you need to make life easier for them. You need to offer them easy navigation, a great website, fantastic content and brilliant prompts. Call to action is one of the most important things and needs to be handled with diplomacy and tact. Don’t come on too strong but be clear about it.
