With the massive increase in popularity of social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter, which can enable users to communicate easily and quickly, some online users are starting to suggest that email will soon no longer be as relevant or useful to those operating online. The amount of spam received by most users with an email address has been increasing greatly in recent months and, unfortunately, the amount of malware within these spam emails has also been increasing and this is a worry for many users trying to protect their systems. Email is starting to be viewed as an annoyance by some users, but others are arguing that email will not become irrelevant to online users anytime soon because of what it can offer.

Email is universal because nearly every regular online user will have an email address and will use it to communicate with others in some way. Whether it is for work, when purchasing items online, registering with a social network or any other activity online, in most cases an email address will be required. Email is familiar and users are accustomed to communicating in this way and from recent research results, they like to communicate in this way too. Many email users like to write long emails in their own time and the way email works enables them to do this. The technology in email is also still developing with changes and new features regularly being added to the major email providers and allowing email users more exciting options and capabilities. Email is a form of communication that the majority of online users regard as highly relevant and useful.

A study carried out recently showed that internet users aged between eighteen and twenty-four years would be happier to give up social networking websites or television than they would be to have to give up their email and other research has revealed that consumers still prefer email as the best way with which to receive marketing information from businesses. Business newsletters are still extremely popular when created appropriately by a business and distributed regularly to users that have become subscribers. A newsletter sent via email can be an effective marketing tool that can play a significant role in search engine optimisation.

Some believe email is losing its relevancy and that social networking websites are going to replace email in popularity, but some recent research has produced findings which contradict this thesis. Internet users like email and choose to use it as an efficient and effective way of communicating with others. Not only is email beneficial for personal use, but also for business purposes too, and it can have a big influence on the internet marketing campaign of a company.

At SEO Consult, we regard email as of utmost importance because we know just how important it remains to the majority of our clients. We understand how email can assist clients to run successful SEO campaigns and can show you how to use marketing emails to develop your brand online and increase the amount of traffic that visits your site.
