You can never be too fresh

Many people totally underestimate what it takes to keep a website optimised and running.  Not only running, but interesting enough for the search engine spiders to come around and crawl your site regularly. Optimisation is the whole process used to improve your website in ways so that the search engines will index your web pages and give you ranking in the SERPs.

Without your page showing up in the search results, you will not have any website traffic, which is your potential customers, coming to your website. What makes optimisation such a time consuming task is that it has to be ongoing. The spiders are not interested in stale content, once they have been there and you don’t have fresh offerings, they will take longer to come again. Eventually they will not be interested in coming around at all if your content stays the same. So let’s look at what content should be like for the spiders to find it interesting.

Relevancy

SEO methods change and adapt as the algorithms search engines use change, but throughout one thing remains. The search engines will rank websites well that have a regular stream of content that is fresh and highly relevant, informational and of good use to website visitors. The spiders ceaselessly look for content that is unique and new and you attract return visitors with useful information that is regularly updated.

How much

To keep feeding your website with fresh content does not mean you have to keep writing articles of thousands of words long. Keep your informational articles short enough to keep the interest of visitors, so try for roughly 500 words. With blog posts you can give highly informative posts of about 250 words and this will satisfy the spiders as well as your site visitors. All articles and postings must be optimised with keywords searchers use that relate to your business, but without stuffing too many into the copy. It is vital that you do not sacrifice readability to try and please the search engines.

Original and unique

Do not make the cardinal mistake of using content that is already online and changing it vaguely to try and palm it off as fresh content. You might fool humans, but the spiders are too efficient and they compare content. Soon they will realise you are not really putting fresh content up and you have wasted your time and it can have a negative impact on your search engine ranking.

Frequency

To keep the search engine spiders interested you not only have to give them fresh content, you have to do so regularly. It is not enough to add fresh content once a month; your ranking will not benefit by this at all. Of course one business blog daily would be excellent, but that is not always viable. Spreading your fresh postings out evenly to roughly three times per week will keep the spiders interested enough to crawl your website and blog regularly. Remember, fresh and original is the criteria for success; stale and plagiarised is the recipe for failure.
