Social media has become part of our lives and is adding more change. Therefore, social media is a factor when you do any SEO work for your website. Free social media tools are liberally available that make it easy to include social media in your SEO and internet marketing efforts. Search engines have evolved and now look at relationships between sites.

So if any of the sites you wish to promote have good relationships with other relevant sites, it pushes up the relevancy factor for the search engines. It is therefore worthwhile to learn how to use social media tools effectively in your search engine optimisation strategies. Off page SEO involves everything that happens off your website, but that has relevance for your website and will benefit your website. There are three things to look to for off site optimisation; quality, quantity and relevance.

Quality

Quality is a must if you hope to attract visitors that will add quality to your website and business. There has to be a matching of interest. Gardening and outdoor patio furniture match, but high fashion and IT services would be a total mismatch. Demographics is hugely important when using social marketing tools. This will bring you visitors who would show an interest in your products and information.

Quantity

Quantity can be good and bad. Quantity per se is not a bad thing, but having thousands of visitors to your website who are not pre-rated as a match is not a good thing. You need visitors that will bring a high conversion rate or it is a waste of time and bandwidth.

Relevance

You provide the relevancy that the search engines look for by joining community forums, micro blogging sites and if possible, blogging networks. By doing this you give your SEO efforts a great helping hand. By joining the various social media networks you provide information to people who are interested in your topic and what you have to sell. You will get invaluable back links for your official business website as well.

Micro blogging sites such as Plurk and Twitter gives you excellent opportunities to network with people around the world that has interest in whatever your niche is. The many forms of social media all give you opportunities to get additional back links and increase your website traffic.

Once you bring the targeted traffic to your website, your on page SEO tactics will keep the visitors interested. With the way the Internet has changed, on page SEO and off site SEO must work hand in glove to be totally successful. Neglecting one or the other will result in mediocre SEO.
