Updates to Bing Maps

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

Local search plays a significant role in search engine optimisation and so it can be beneficial for a business to list their website with local map services like those provided by Google and Bing. By registering with Bing Maps, it is possible to greatly increase the amount of targeted traffic that visits your website. Due to the popularity and value of these websites, relevant listings will be ranked highly in the search results when a relevant local search is carried out. Listing your business with map services is often fairly simple and free and so it is extremely advantageous to spend a little bit of time submitting your details.

Bing Maps has recently undergone some significant changes and developments and Microsoft is hoping that the service provided by Bing Maps is going to be much improved because of these alterations. Draggable routes have been added, changes to the zoom bar made, embedding of maps made possible and changes have been made in navigation too.

The draggable routes feature is one significant change to the Bing Maps service. This feature enables users of Bing Maps to change the routes generated quickly and easily. Often, once the necessary details have been entered and a suggested route displayed, users may be unhappy with a certain part of the route and may want to make a small alteration without having to start the search again. This draggable route feature allows them to simply drag the route from where has been suggested to where the user would prefer and so the preferred route is displayed. Microsoft has stated that this will be a major advantage for its users because many have previously suggested this type of feature and now Bing Maps can deliver.

The changes to the zoom function on Bing Maps are also set to make searching and assessing a route using the website easier. It will enable users to choose a specific level of zoom for their map and route rather than making users move in and out one different zoom level at a time.

Another significant development from Bing Maps is that it is now easier for users to embed maps into the pages of their websites or blogs so that these maps will be displayed for visitors. This can be an extremely effective way of providing visitors with useful information.

Bing Maps has also implemented changes that will make it easier for users to navigate their way around the site and to search for what they are looking more efficiently.

It is hoped that all of these changes and developments will help to make the Bing Maps service even more productive and popular than it already is. If users are satisfied with the service it provides, the number of users will increase and it will make it even more beneficial for businesses to have listings with Bing Maps.

Is your search engine optimisation campaign ready for Bing?

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

All of the search engines on the internet evaluate and rank websites in their search results in a slightly different way. Different technology and algorithms used by different search engines means that the factors of a website that are deemed highly significant by the web crawler of one search engine, may not be viewed as important by another search engine. There are however, some important SEO techniques that are known to increase the chances of a website being ranked highly in the search results of the major search engines and most SEO campaigns are based on these SEO methods. If a business is aiming to be ranked in the top position of the search results of a particular search engine, it is necessary to research this search engine thoroughly to ensure that the SEO techniques used are going to be able to help them be ranked highly by that search engine.

Bing is a search engine that has been increasing in popularity recently and that is receiving a lot of attention. It is likely that the significance of this search engine will only increase further in the future with the new developments taking place and this means that more and more businesses will be looking to optimise their websites in order to be ranked highly in the search results of Bing. Those involved in search engine optimisation are already considering how this can be done and websites are already using some SEO techniques to help them achieve high rankings in the Bing search results.

A good place to start if you want your website to be ranked highly by Bing is with the domain name you choose. Bing is recognised as rewarding older domain names. This is based on the view that older websites will be of a higher quality and are more trustworthy because they have been established for a longer period of time.

Bing is also known to acknowledge the amount of text content present on a web page as a signifier of a high quality web page. It is currently being recommended that business have content that contains more than 350 words on web pages that they want to be ranked highly in Bing search results. As always with search engine optimisation, this text should be relevant and of a high quality if it is going to be useful to visitors to the website and to help the business be successful in search results.

The creation of high quality links within and to the website will also help a website to be ranked highly by Bing. Links always play a significant role in SEO and it seems the Bing ranking process also acknowledges links as an important factor. Make sure that links to your website are from other respectable and relevant websites and ensure that the links within your website work correctly so that the web crawler will be able to explore all web pages of your website quickly and easily.

These are just a few things to take into consideration if you want your website to be ranked highly in the search results provided by Bing. At SEO Consult, we can help you to optimise your website for one or all of the major search engines and will identify the perfect SEO techniques specifically for the wants and needs of your business.
