The Best SEO Tool: SEO Experts

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

You may have noticed in your wanderings around the net that there are plenty of SEO experts out there willing to give you their advice. Not only are they willing to give advice, they’re willing to do it for free. With so much free advice around, it’s an absolute crime not to make use of it for your search engine optimisation campaign.

Phase 1: performing initial research

The information on optimisation that’s around the net is invaluable when you first begin to look into search engine optimisation. The technical nature of the subject makes it a little difficult for a beginner to grasp at first. Luckily, there are hundreds of experts out there all too willing to give you the knowledge you need. Make use of the numerous articles on SEO basics around the net when you’re first looking for an SEO company. You can also talk to us at SEO Consult Australia about your needs.

Phase 2: after you SEO

The SEO information around the net becomes even handier after your search engine optimization company has finished its work and your results have come in. Not many businesses realise what is involved in ongoing SEO maintenance. Don’t be afraid to tap into the wealth of knowledge in forums and blogs around the net.

When to distrust free SEO advice

The internet is rife with misinformation, and a smart business needs to be wary. The SEO community is no less vulnerable to misinformation than anywhere else. There are plenty of fraudsters or simply badly informed people publishing articles about search engine optimization.

The best way to judge is by seeing what everyone else in the SEO community thinks. Although the industry spans the globe, and experts may never meet each other face to face, the SEO community is actually quite a close-knit one. A little reading around various sites will give you an idea of who the movers and shakers are. SEO commentators are also fairly swift to denounce charlatans. If in doubt, cross-check the advice with several sources.

If there’s so much free advice, why pay for SEO services?

Not every company wants to use a professional to optimise their site. Some companies are able to perform SEO from within the business. Some can’t afford SEO services in their budget. With so many experts so eager to provide all sorts of tips on optimisation, it can seem like a far easier thing just to SEO for yourself.

It’s certainly possible to optimise your own site, but the question remains of how thoroughly you want the job done. Optimisation is much like any other technical task. When you need a light repair on your car, you can easily gather the information to do it yourself. Whether you would trust DIY for serious repairs is another consideration. The truth is, an SEO professional is not essential, but is likely to prove worthwhile in the long run. The question of whether to engage a professional SEO company is an individual one that only you can decide.

Back to the basics of SEO

Friday, July 10th, 2009

SEO is vast and continually evolving so one can be forgiven for getting caught up in all of it. It is easy to understand why and how some websites lose sight of the fundamental basics in favour of the hip and happening. However, everyone needs to return to their SEO roots at some point or another because the basics are here to stay. Before we start looking at those vital basics that get lost in all the hype, let’s look at on and Off-Site Search Engine Optimisation.

On-site SEO is everything that you have control over, everything on your website. This includes things like your title, your domain and your content of course. Off-site is just that, not on your website. That refers especially to your inbound links from other pages. Off-site SEO is just as important as onsite because your links are crucially important to the search engines.

Linking and networking

Links are vitally important to your website. That means inbound links, not so much the outbound ones. Your inbound links translate directly into popularity as far as the crawlers and engines are concerned. For this reason it is important to build as many internal or inbound links as possible with other websites. It is also incredibly important that the websites linking to you have an impeccable reputation.

The engines know the reputations of those other sites and they will rank you according to their reputations, not just your own. If their reputations are terrible, this affects you negatively. Always choose links with positively ranked websites.

It is also important to remember that you cannot cheat this aspect of SEO simply by building hundreds of inbound links with reputable but mediocre websites. Linking to websites that have low traffic volumes and don’t offer much is not a good idea. A hundred of these measly links may not even measure up to the value of a few top quality links from exceptional websites.

Content

There is an age old SEO saying that advocates content as the king of your website. And in many ways this is very true. You can attract visitors with brilliant content, even If the rest of your website is lacking a little oomph. Content is a great way to keep the search engines coming back for more. If that content is not changed or refreshed, then you are in big trouble.

Activity and fresh content make the crawlers zoom in. Changing your content regularly also attracts traffic to your website; stale content gets ignored by humans and the bots. Changing, tweaking and refreshing content serves a dual purpose. The fresher your content, the more attention you get from the engines and the higher your ranking.

The fresher content also attracts traffic which in turn alerts the engines to your popularity and that means they push your ranking even further up. And, the higher your ranking, the bigger your audience gets because of better visibility. It is a self perpetuating cycle of ranking success.

Conclusion

No matter how many new fangled tricks and gimmicks you try, the older, tried and tested methods of SEO still reign supreme. Go back to basics if the newer methods and tactics are not working so well. Maybe all you need is to brush up on your basics.
