Two search engine optimisation techniques that are always beneficial

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Within search engine optimisation, there are many different methods that are commonly utilised by businesses trying to achieve higher rankings in the search results provided by the search engines. These techniques are regularly changing and developing too as the technology used by the search engines becomes more complex and the search engines strive to offer searchers an even better service. However, there are two basic search engine optimisation techniques that are always important to any search engine optimisation campaign and that should always be used if you want your business to become more successful.

Content is one of the most important parts of search engine optimisation. Unique, relevant and high quality content is what a website needs if it is going to attract the attention of the search engine web crawlers and gain their respect. Content must be suitable for the website and offer useful and accurate information so that the search engines can gain an understanding of what the website is about and rank it appropriately when a relevant search query is placed.

Regularly adding fresh content like this to your website can encourage the web crawlers to return to your site and explore it more thoroughly and this is beneficial. Content within the pages of your website will attract and inform the web crawlers about your business and what it has offer but will also provide your visitors with useful and valuable information that will encourage them to explore your site further and possibly to become customers too.

Not only is it the content within the pages of your site that can make a big difference, but this content is also important for other internet marketing techniques used within a search engine optimisation campaign. Content needs to be unique and of top quality when placed in promotional articles, blogs, forum posts and in posts made on social networking sites too. This will help you to develop your brand online and gain exposure for your business.

Another basic but highly necessary SEO technique is link building. The building of genuine, relevant and high quality links to your website will again help the web crawlers to find and index your site appropriately. The building of links to your site from other highly ranked and respected sites can encourage the search engines to rank your website highly too. Building links in an unethical manner will not be beneficial for your website and should not be done.

The creation of high quality and unique content and the building of high quality links are two of the most proven SEO techniques that can make a big difference to an SEO campaign. We at SEO Consult can show you how to use these techniques to improve your results and can also identify for you the other most suitable SEO methods that you should be using within your SEO campaign. We have the knowledge and experience to help you to build a productive and successful SEO campaign.

SEO Quickie Check-list

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

It is interesting to see the search stats about the subject of SEO. It shows that a very large number of people search for advice on optimisation. The problem is that most people are looking for a quick fix; people have no patience and they want everything instantly. Unfortunately this is not the way optimisation works. There are no rules set in stone as to what works and what does not work in SEO.

First of all, there are no guarantees in optimisation; no-one can promise you first place in the search results pages. Optimisation simply has guidelines that if implemented should improve your ratings. Another very important factor is that there is no such thing as generic optimisation. It is industry specific and website specific. What works for a pharmaceutical company will not really work for a jewellery designer.

Newbies beware

When you are starting out with online marketing there are many pitfalls waiting for the newbie. There is no fast way to learn all the dos and don’ts. What is always handy is to have a quick check list. It can serve you well if you have it handy when going over optimisation campaign criteria. It will help you in the process of designing and keeping your website search engine friendly.

Must do

See that each of your pages have a title that is exclusive, this is very important. No-one can start optimising until after in-depth keyword research has been done. This is the only way you can know how your optimisation efforts will pan out. The file names must be page specific. Meaning you must use file names that are relevant to the keywords used on that specific page.

For example if the page is about white pants for women, your file name should be [your domain name]/womens-white-pants.xxx. It is very important that you are totally organised with the structure of your directory. Keep things as simple as possible, stay away from clutter. Your content must be keyword rich yes, but do not overdo it. Content must be highly focussed towards conversion for your business, do not use general trivia.

Don’t clutter up with junk

It is not a good idea to clutter your website with unnecessary junk. Junk being anything that confuse the issues and make it more difficult for visitors and search engines. Never use content for the simple sake of optimisation. Stay away from stock content, you will lose all the way. Get your own unique content to keep visitors interested.

Get rid of any garbage code that is not necessary, such as too many tables and stay away form Java scripts. Keep your code clean and validated. Garbage footers are a no-no. Only keep valuable footer links, this is not the place to squeeze in SEO. Also, keep your URLs clean and simplistic. Too many session IDs and overkill on variants turns your URLs to garbage. Streamline everything, chuck out the garbage as it is meaningless. More is not always better, too often more turns into plain old garbage.
